Phifer was last seen in Denver, Colorado on May 18, 1984. He left his Denver residence with his girlfriend, Kay Hollis, to drive to Grand Junction, Colorado in a green 1972 Ford Pinto with Colorado license plate AGB319. They never arrived. In June 1984, Hollis’s body was recovered from the Colorado River between Palisade and De Beque; authorities speculated the car went into the river, but Phifer was never found. His case remains unsolved.
