Ognjan left his home in St. Clair Shores, Michigan on November 22, 1985 with his childhood friend David Tyll, planning to spend the weekend deer hunting at Tyll’s family’s cabin near White Cloud. The two men were last seen in the Houghton Lake and Mio area that day, driving Tyll’s black 1980 Ford Bronco with the Michigan license plate number 447 HRZ. They never arrived at the cabin, and the Bronco has never been found. Ognjan had a mustache at the time of his disappearance. In 2003, two brothers were convicted of murdering both men, but their remains have never been recovered. His case remains unsolved.
