Circumstances
Begay, a Navajo elder and accomplished weaver of traditional Navajo rugs, was last seen at her home in Tolikan, Arizona, a remote community on the Navajo Nation, on June 15, 2021. Her silver 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck, Arizona license plate AFE7101, was seen pulling away from her home at about 2:30 a.m., and the door to her home was later found kicked open. The truck has never been found. Investigators believe Begay was the victim of foul play. A person of interest, Preston Henry Tolth, later pleaded guilty to robbery in her case, admitting he stole her truck and struck her before leaving her unconscious on the reservation. Begay herself has never been located. She wears eyeglasses and her ears are double pierced. Her case remains unsolved.
